Galaxy Dress - Pacsun, $16.99
Jean Jacket - Tag's Thrift Store (The Gap), $2.99
White Clutch - Vintage from grandma, Free
Sparly Necklace - Gift, Free
My outfit total is $34.98!!! Pretty thrifty, I'd say!
Me and Gideon went to California over the summer to visit my family. The beach has never been so warm!! It was a really nice trip to end this summer. On to my outfit of the day... Grey Sandals - Forever Young Shoes, $15 Galaxy Dress - Pacsun, $16.99 Jean Jacket - Tag's Thrift Store (The Gap), $2.99 White Clutch - Vintage from grandma, Free Sparly Necklace - Gift, Free My outfit total is $34.98!!! Pretty thrifty, I'd say! My tip of the day? Mix and match pieces from different stores. Sure, you can just copy the mannequin at Banana Republic and look very put together. But where is the fun in that? Dressing yourself is a way to be creative and I like piecing an outfit together that very possibly no one else has ever worn. Have a good day and thanks for reading!

Summer is the perfect time to explore what there is to see around you. I live in Salt Lake City, Utah, and there really is a ton to do with in driving distance. Me and my husband didn't get to travel a ton this summer due to our work schedules, so we did a ton of little weekend or day trips!! (aka stay-cations!!!) First, I went to Thanksgiving Point Gardens which, if you live near Utah Valley, you have heard of or been to! Their gardens are beautiful and fun to walk around with people of all ages. My husband's work had a Lagoon Day (Lagoon is a theme park just north of Salt Lake). It is a pretty fun park, especially for free!! He was able to take me and his two youngest brothers to the park for a free day of food and roller coasters. My husband was too scared to go on The Rocket, so I went with my brother-in-law. We weren't that scared, though the drop was insane! We also went to This is the Place, in Salt Lake. This is a park where they have workers dressed as pioneers and old buildings that were typical of the pioneer era. I love going there and learning about the early history of Utah. Plus, it is fun to see all my nieces and nephews hacking at rugs or doing small crafts!! We also went to Cowabunga Bay, which is a water slide park meant for younger children. I had a good time though, which means I'm young at heart. On to my outfit of the day!! Strappy Black Sandals - Forever Young Shoes Store, $15 Black High Waisted Shorts - Nordstrom Rack, $22 Patterned Crop Top - Nordstrom Rack, $5 Necklace - Lucky, Free (birthday gift) Bracelet - Vintage from my grandmother My outfit total? $42!!! That is a pretty good price. My tip of the day? Wear sun screen, especially in the summer. As you can see in the picture below, I forgot to wear sunscreen when I went to a waterslide park. I had a nasty burn on my back for a week or two. Plus, it left weird tan lines!! Even if it isn't sunny out, you can still get burned. Sun burns and sun exposure can really make your skin look a lot older than it is. So, protect your largest organ!!!
Have a great day, thanks for reading!!! Me and Gideon were able to meet my sister and brother-in-law in Idaho for the weekend. What a beautiful little lake town!! Coeur d'alene was super cute! We went swimming the first day and cliff jumped on the shore then finished the evening with wandering up and down the main street. Also, it was our first time trying the Go Pro under the water!! And, a huge shout out to my aunt and cousins for letting us stay in their home for free for the weekend. They were very welcoming. I loved their huge yard with so many trees! The next day we went to Spokane, Washington. What a cool town!! Down the middle was a huge river that had tons of bridges you could walk across to be on either side of the river. It was very fun, and we took a whole afternoon just exploring. It was a great weekend, and it was especially nice to see family that I don't get to see that often. Plus, going somewhere new is always a good idea. On to my outfit of the day.... Strappy Black Sandals - Forever Young Shoes, $15 Red Shorts - Vans, $16.99 Black Shirt - Birthday gift from my sister- in-law!!! I love this shirt, it splits up the side. Gold Pendant Necklace - Nordstrom Rack, $8.50 Heart Sunnies - Pacsun Outlet, $5 My outfit total was only $45.49!!! That is pretty good!! I'm not sure why, but it seems like summer clothing is cheaper than winter clothing. My tip of the day? If it's a good deal, buy multiple items!!! I bought these sandals for a great deal at Forever Young Shoes (buy one get one free so basically two pairs for $30). I went back a week later and bought two more pairs of sandals. This store doesn't have that great of quality, but honestly they last the whole summer and that is all I really need out of a trendy summer shoe.
Thanks for reading!!! We went to California, again. It is probably my favorite place in the whole world. We went to Disneyland (woot woot!!) and I just bought a GoPro, so it was fun taking pictures with it. I love that camera!!! It really does take amazing pictures, but is small so you don't have to heave around a huge camera to get the same picture quality. It's not a trip to California with out a drive down to the beach!!! This time we checked out La Jolla and San Diego area. I'm in love!! We usually try more northern beaches, but I really liked this area. We hiked around Torrey Pines State Park. It's a beautiful hike above La Jolla beaches. Definitely worth having to exercise. Plus, all of my family living in California was able to come!! We also went to Seal Beach in La Jolla. I think this beach might have been my favorite part of the vacation. It's this cove that they created for children to be able to swim in so there isn't as many waves, but I guess the seals just took over and live there now. You can get pretty close to them, and they are there year round. I love animals, so that was a special thing for me to see. It was a great end to a great vacay. On to my outfit of the day!! (excuse my puppy in some of these pictures) High-Low Hemmed Dress - Nordstrom, $35.99
Suede wedges - Nordstrom, $45 (so comfy!!) Silver Bracelets - Alex and Ani, free (gift from college roommate) Earrings - Nordstrom, Wedding gift from my mom (I wore them in my wedding) My outfit total? $80.99 (yikes, my outfit totals have been expensive lately!) I guess I need to start shopping a little more budget friendly. My tip of the day? Be comfortable in what you are wearing! Yes, it is fun to try that daring new trend. But if you don't really like how it looks or it just doesn't feel good, chances are you'll buy an article of clothing and never wear it again. Which is a waste of money!!!! This outfit is super comfortable and fits to my body (even when I'm bloated or have gained a couple of pounds, thanks to the draw string waist). I see this all the time when people try the high waisted shorts or crop tops (which I love) but if you don't have the confidence (or buy the wrong size) it just looks like a mess. So, when you go to buy something trendy; stop and picture yourself actually wearing it in a real life situation (not a Lil' Wayne music video). Thanks for reading, and have a great day!!! Moab!!!! Wow, what an amazing place. We were able to go camping for two nights in Moab, a couple of weekends ago. If you haven't been to Moab, Utah, GO! It is seriously beautiful. Red rock for days!!! There is nothing else like falling asleep under the stars. Camping was really fun, and really not as hard as I thought it would be. We probably got to spend more time outside than if we had gotten a hotel. Me and Gideon actually camped for our honeymoon in Moab (2 summers ago) and it was super hot then. Coming in the spring was a much better choice, though it was cold at night and in the morning. Our campsite was right on the river, which was great to wake up to. It was beautiful! Our second day in Moab, we rented a jeep to go off roading in. It has been Gideon's dream to drive a jeep around so this was a pretty cool experience for the whole family. We all squished into the jeep and just found some red dirt paths to explore. We had a fun incident of almost tipping the jeep (we went on a super hard trail that was probably not meant for a rental jeep) and had a long drive when we got lost out in the desert. That afternoon, after jeeping all day, we went on this scenic hike to a waterfall where you can jump off into the water. If you get a chance to go to Moab, definitely do the Mill Creek Trail. You walk along a beautiful stream the whole trail and you can walk in the stream if it's too hot outside. I love this hike. So, Moab is great. Go explore there, now!! On to my outfit of the day... Black Ankle Strap Ballet Flats - Steve Madden via Nordstrom Rack, $19.99 (I love these shoes) Acid Washed High Waisted Jeans - Express, $15.99 Blue Scoop Neck Tee - Halogen via Nordstrom Rack, $8.49 Faux Leather Jacket - Pacsun Outlets, $16.99 Gold Angle Necklace - Etsy, Gift so free! White Bone Bracelet - Vintage, from my grandma so free!! My outfit total was $61.46. Not bad, though jackets always cost a little extra. My tip of the day? This one isn't really a fashion tip, but drink lots of water! I recently heard that you should be drinking half your body weight, in ounces. So, if I weighed 140 pounds, I should be drinking 70 ounces of water (which is like 4 and half bottles of water). I've been trying to follow this bit of advise, and I have to pee all the time!!! I seriously spend half the day on the toilet (gross, I know). But after reading Bob Harper's Skinny Rules, he suggests drinking a big glass of water as soon as you wake up because it helps your body wake up. I started doing this, drinking a glass of water right when I wake up, and it really does help my morning. Waking up is hard, but drinking water right away does make me feel a little better about having to be up Thanks for reading!!! Have a great day!
So, our family has grown a little larger. We got a beautiful Persian female cat (Squishy) and a beautiful female Golden Doodle puppy (Charley). I love them so much!!! I didn't realize how having a pet could complete my life so much. This post is pretty much devoted to my obsession with my pets, which my husband says is unhealthy but I say," who cares!" First, I'll talk about Squishy. My husband named her, but it honestly fits her so well. I love to squish her squished face and whisper, "I love you more than anything, my squishy squish.". She meows like she doesn't like it but I know she does, deep deep down. I also like to make her sit on the bed with me in the mornings. She tries to leave like she hates me but I know it's just a show. She really loves me. She also had to have eye surgery (she is a very high maintenance cat!) I almost cried when I came home from work and saw her poor eyes!! Basically, she is my best friend and I'm in love with her. So, next up is Charley. I don't have as many cute pictures of Charley due to her never sitting still!! She has serious amounts of energy and then will sleep for forever. She is still in her puppy phase so she plays and bites and has accidents all around the house. However, she is very smart and already knows how to sit and shake and lay down!! She is curly and fluffy and super happy all the time. Sorry if this is boring anyone, but next I want to talk for a second about how good of friends Charley and Squishy are. The cat was scared of our new puppy at first and would just watch her from all the corners of the house. But now, they are more used to each other and immediately sniff each other when we bring the dog back from somewhere. They have opposite personalities (Squish is angry and stand-offish and Charley is happy and friendly) but they seem to get along just great. They are the best of friends, just like their parents!!! On to my outfit of the day... Black Wedge Heels - Nordstrom, $45 (I'm seriously in love with these wedges) Shift Dress - Called To Surf, $15 (what a steal!) Spoon Ring - Open Air Market, $10 Feather Turquoise Ring - Fortune Coin, $8 Turquoise Heart ring - Garage Sell $.50 Turquoise silver necklace - Lucky, Gift from a friend. My outfit total?? 78.50 (yikes, this one was pricier, but it's the shoes fault) I definitely spent more on my heels than I normally do. But they are super comfy and cute and I really do wear them all the time. I love love love this dress. Shift dresses are so in right now, and on the plus side, they are super comfortable! It's like wearing PJ's, but you're not. My tip of the day? Go to a new store to check it out! I recently moved and have been discovering cute little boutiques near my new home. This little store in Provo, Called To Surf, has such cute clothing. It's a little over priced so I only get items on sale, but they are still really cute. I also found a cute boutique, attached to a hair salon, in Orem (Ella Bloom). They have really cute clothes as well. So, go out and stop at that little store you have always wanted to check out! It's great to support local companies and you'll get to wear something that no one else will have. Thanks for reading!!!
Well, we were able to go to Montana again, to visit my family. It was thrilling, as always!! We, of course, went hiking (I think this is Montana's top tourist attraction). There is nothing else like being in the forest, breathing in the fresh mountain air. I'm pretty sure we were the only ones around for miles. My in laws took us to Fish Creek to see the largest Ponderosa tree in Montana!! It was pretty impressive, my phone couldn't even fit it all in!! The next day we went to a little mining town, named Phillipsburg. It had a rustic main street with crystal and antique shops lining the area. You could even pan for gemstones!! I wish we had done it, but we ran out of time. There was also this great candy shop. I sure filled up a big bag. (; My mouth is watering as I write about how good the candy was! It was an amazing weekend with some amazing family. Can't wait until next time, Montana!! On to my outfit of the day!! This outfit is great for one of those spring days where you don't know if it is going to be cold or warm. This day happened to be cold so I piled on a scarf and wool jacket, and threw on some boots.
Knee High Studded Faux Leather Boots - Somewhere in California, $24 Jean Leggings - Ann Taylor Loft, $14.99 Pink Long Sleeved Shirt - Banana Republic, $9.99 (It has a sheer back that is very pretty) Grey Infinity Scarf - American Apparel, $20 (I bought it with a Groupon, so it was super cheap) Wool Purple Coat - Burlington Coat Factory, $20 My outfit total is $88.98. So, this outfit was pretty pricey for me but boots and coats are expensive. My tip of the day??? Travel often! I take any opportunity to get away, and just go. You'd be surprised how cheap it can be to travel. If you fill up your car with people, split the gas so it isn't as pricey. Hit up that old friend you have that lives in a different area and ask to stay at their place. That way you don't have to stay at a hotel! I get the travel bug in me often, and even exploring somewhere close to home can usually satisfy that craving for me. Thanks for reading!!! February had a lot of birthday's in my life!! My husband's was on the first, and it happened to be our first dinner party we have had at our new house. I made the biggest pot of pasta you have ever seen in your life! I made Gideon's birthday cake from scratch.... just kidding, I'm not that skilled! I was also able to use a lot of my grandma's glass dishes I got when she died. It made me feel connected to a woman I haven't seen since in years. All in all it was a great dinner and everyone ate and played games, all in my new house!!! I'm like an actual grown up, having dinner parties and guests over. My husband and family were putting in floors hence their clothing. And Gideon really appreciated my poorly wrapped birthday presents, that are Little Mermaid wrapping paper. It was only a dollar, how could I pass that wrapping paper up? The next birthday in February was my niece, Brooke. She turned 8 and was baptized. Luckily me and Gideon were able to drive down from Utah to attend. My mother did make her cake from scratch. It's an eight layer cake (for her eighth birthday, of course!) and looks like a home made wedding cake to me but what little girl doesn't want a wedding cake for her birthday cake? Apparently she picked out what she wanted, all on her own. Me and my other nieces were only too happy to help decorate this monstrosity!! It was a beautiful baptism, with many of my nieces and nephews able to sing for all the guests who came. After the baptism, my family had a nice dinner with all the foods that Brooke likes. The table setting was beautiful, and we had a hot chocolate bar (thank you Pinterest!!!). I was stuffed for hours after eating!! It was a wonderful weekend, baptism, birthday, and dinner. Thank you, mom, for making it all!!! Well, on to my outfit of the day!! I love, love , love this outfit!! I really like the lacy see-through skirt, which is fun and flirty. But pair it with a blazer and it is suddenly work appropriate. Strappy Tan Stilettos - Jessica Simpson from Plato's Closet, $9 Ivory lLace Skirt - Nordstrom Rack, $9 Salmon V Neck Shirt - Abound from Nordstrom Rack, $9 Black Blazer - Sears, $8 Flower Bracelet -Ann Taylor Loft, $8 Gold V Necklace - Etsy, Birthday gift so free!!!! My outfit total is $43!!! My tip of the day??? Show skin strategically! You don't want to be skimpy on top and bottom because it is just too much all at once. With this outfit, I'm showing a bit of leg (though it is covered up with a sheer fabric) and then am totally covered on top. Obviously, there are some instances to break this rule (like a rave?) but for the most part it is a pretty good rule. Same goes if you are showing some of your chest or back, make sure the rest of your outfit is a little more modest. Thanks for reading, have a special day!!
My grand father passed away in January and had his funeral in Berkeley, California. It was a sad weekend but I also got to see most of my extended family, which was really special. I was also able to go to San Francisco for the day with my husband. It's always phenomenal to go somewhere new with the people you love. We basically just wandered around the wharf's and piers for a day. My little feet were worn out after all that strolling! San Francisco is breath taking. I haven't been since I was a little girl and my small memory doesn't do this city justice. We did some of the tourist stuff like Ghirardelli Square, Fisherman's Wharf, pointing at Alcatraz Island, and you can't not go see the Golden Gate Bridge when you are in San Francisco. The day of my grandpa's funeral, my family went for one of his favorite hikes around Berkeley. You start at his apartment complex first, then walk past the bakery we used to get cheese bread from when we were little. Then you turn left when you get to the club house we used to swim at as children. Then you walk past Greek Row at UC Berkeley (I had to take a picture next to my sorority, Alpha Chi Omega). You go up a hill and then get to look over the city of Berkeley (shown with my super cute nephew). It was a great hike and tribute to a great man. If you knew my grandfather, you knew that he loved hikes. On to my outfit of the day!! I love this warm, comfy outfit. It's great for running around doing errand or going out to the movies.
Brown Ankle Booties - Nordstrom Rack, $26 Grey Knee High Socks - Who knows? These are way old (PS if you are going to wear socks with ankle boots, make sure to scrunch them down a bit to a couple inches above the top of your boots. It looks better this way.) Black Leggings with colored stripes - Nordstrom Rack, $9 Striped Grey and Brown Hoodie - $25 (I actually stole this from my husband. I think it's super soft and loose which is just nice some days.) My outfit total is $60! My tip of the day??? Don't be afraid to look in the men's section for clothing, or even boys. This cute sweater didn't fit my husband anymore but it fits great on me. The style for shirts is looser right now anyways so going to the men's section fits with that style. I've gotten flannel shirts and sweatshirts several times from the men's section at store. I also got some boys socks at Costco once. I have tiny feet but don't like all the crazy patterns that girls socks seem to typically have and the men's socks are too big for my small feet. But the boys larger size fit perfect!! So yeah, it is the year 2015 and women don't have to just shop in the women's department. Branch out and check out the men's section. You will be surprised how much of it can really go to any gender. Thanks for reading!!! Part 2 of my trip to California for Christmas. I was able to spend so much time with family which was great. My nieces are finally to an age where they can actually go do fun stuff. We were able to go ice skating. I'm not athletic but I really love ice skating. It also snowed, while I was home. This is super rare for the area I grew up in, but it made me feel right at home with having snow on the ground in the winter. There was enough to actually build a snow man!! We also went to LA again and ate at some awesome restaurants in Korea Town. I had the best shaved ice I've ever had. It had fruit, ice cream, ice and cereal toppings all mixed together. Delicious!! My in laws came out to California after New Years. I have to say that this last new years we all fell asleep at about 10 PM. Sad!! Anyways, we went to the beach at Santa Monica Pier one of the days they were visiting. That is one of my favorite beaches to go to if you aren't really going to swim, which it's a little cold to swim in December. There is a fun pier to walk down, with great people watching. Plus there is a huge outdoor mall down the street (: Me and Gideon attempted to do the dance move from Dirty Dancing, it was more of a fail. Gideon kept telling my to straighten my body, but I kept doing something strange! I guess we won't quit our day jobs... This was one of my favorite Christmas's, and I would give anything to stick my toes in the sand right now. On to my outfit of the day. Purple Strappy Stilettos- Aldo Outlet, $29.99 (there are these great outlet shops outside of Vegas, in Primm, NV. Aldo's clearance is usually 1/2 off)
Grey Flowered Leggings - Nordstrom Rack, $9.05 White V-Neck Shirt - H&M, $5.00 Button Up Chambray Shirt - Cotton On, (this was a Christmas present) $0 Silver Beaded Necklace with Turquoise Rock Pendant - Lucky (Birthday Present) $0 Layered silver bracelets - Alex and Ani (Birthday Present) $0 My outfit total is $44.04 That is pretty good!!! Though, a lot of my outfit was gifted to me. My tip of the day?? Layer your clothing! Utah has very unpredictable weather so I never know if it is going to be hot or cold or comfortable. That is why it is smart to layer shirts under long sleeves or bring a jacket wherever you go. If you get hot, then you can just take off the outer layer or vise versa! If you're anything like me, I get cold very easily so I try to bring another shirt or jacket with me at all times. My husband hates having to give me his jacket if I forgot mine (; Thanks for reading, have a great day! |
