Well, I finally made it to the Great Salt Lake. It has only been about 5 years since I've lived in Salt Lake City, so I'd say that means I need to explore where I live more often.
It's been my dream to see this lake, since I've lived here. I was warned that is smells (it does) and that I would get eaten alive by bugs (which I did). For those of you who don't know, the Great Salt Lake is basically run off from an ancient ocean that has since disappeared. That is why it is so so salty. Nothing really lives in the lake, except for tiny shrimp (that aren't shrimp at all, they look more like sea monkeys) and the lake isn't popular for boating due to the smells and bugs. But it was totally worth it. There really isn't a way to describe the vastness of this lake in words, it's truly something all travelers most see for themselves. My and my husband were pretty much alone our whole exploration.
Part of the Antelope Island State Park (which is one of many islands in the Great Salt Lake) are huge buffalo/bison herds, as well as (duh) antelope. We were able to drive to the island and hunt for bison/buffalo (I know there is a difference but I honestly don't remember what the difference is). They are such a huge animal!!! I was shocked how big their heads are. We enjoyed stalking some for pictures, for like an hour.
We ended our adventure by hanging out on one of the sandy shores, watching the sunset. My husband skipped rocks on the lake, while I walked as far out as my rolled up pants would allow me. It was surprisingly flat and I could walk rather far before the water got too high. It was such a surreal experience because there is so much water, like an ocean, but it doesn't have any movement!! No waves and no people. But it sure felt great to slip off my shoes and just hang out, the two of us, in a beautiful place.
On to my outfit of the day... My shoes are from Pacsun and were 18.99. I was unsure about white shoes (I tend to be VERY messy) but have grown very attached to these fake Vans slip ons. My stretchy jegging pants are from Ann Taylor Loft and were 14.99. My salmon colored 3 quarter length sleeve shirt is from Down East Basics and was 8.99, and I really like the little white collar that is attached to it. My bracelet was my grandmothers, so FREE. My outfit total was 42.97.
My tip of the day? Plan your outfit the night before! I don't know if everyone is like me in the mornings, but I hate having to make decisions when I first wake up. The less I have to do in the morning, the better. I usually pick my outfit and jewelry the night before and lay it out so I can dress quickly and get to work. This is also helpful in making me look more put together because if I don't plan what I'm going to wear I tend to pick clothing that is more comfortable instead of professional.
